How damaging is it in the long run to have sutures separating around the areola after Breast Reduction?

I had delayed attachment of the areola/nipple complex due to circulation problems during my reduction. Everything was completed about a week later and I have had no additional circulation issues. But because my PS wanted to be cautious, I was told to wear a loose-fitting, post-surgical bra (about 2 sizes too big) with little to no actual breast support so that there would be no constriction problems. I think the weight of my breasts have caused some separation between the sutures.

Wound healing problems around the areola are not unusual after a breast reduction particularly if the breasts were excessively long.  The best plan is to allow this to heal and once healed your plastic surgeon may need to plan a revision.

I think that you need to follow closely with your surgeon. Did the sutures separate on their own?  Or did the surgeon cut some of them so it released tension on the areola during the healing process?
