What happens to the mentalis after chin shortening/burring?

Hi, I am considering a chin reduction, but I was wondering: what happens to the mentalis if a part of the bone it's always been draped over is suddenly reduced or removed? How can it function the way it did? Are there any risks involved?

This answer requires a very detailed examination, however, it is possible theoretically that you could benefit from Buccal Fat Removal or Botox injections to the Masseter.

Either works. But often the implant is removed and a genioplasty performed to ensure proper profile contours. The chin has a muscle 'under' it which can 'stretch' forward with a genioplasty. That muscle is the attachment of the tongue which you want to move forward if you have sleep apnea. The...

Providing that your chin mass is entirely fibrous, scar tissue, it can be treated with injection of corticosteroid (Kenalog) until it is significantly reduced. In person consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon is recommended.
