Can I get a surgery for a horrible deviated septum and rhinoplasty or some type of reshaping? I had the dev sept surgry in 1987!

Its very common to have a septoplasty done at the same time as rhinoplasty surgery.If you have had a prior septoplasty it may make the procedure more challenging the second time around.  You need to find a surgeon who specializes in nasal surgery and performs septorhinoplasty frequently.

There are many reasons that can cause nasal obstruction, and a deviated septum is only one reason. After an examination of the internal portion of the nose, an ENT/ facial plastic surgeon will determine medical necessity for the  nasal obstruction.Repairing a deviated septum will not change the shape of the nose. The rhinoplasty component is considered cosmetic and is not covered by any medical insurance because there  is no medical necessity.A septoplasty and a rhinoplasty can be performed together under one anesthetic. If you had a septoplasty in 1987 they may or maynot have removed a majority of the septum. (SMR). The dorsum needs at least 1 cm of health cartilage to prevent collapse. Most insurance companies will not cover the cosmetic portion of nasal surgery such as cosmetic rhinoplasty.

 Be cautious having another septoplasty surgery is you've already had it done in 1987.  Unless you've had nasal trauma since that operation, the segment of septal cartilage that created the deviation should have already been removed and will not grow back.  Nasal obstruction can be due to other factors, not just septal deviation, including polyps, nasal allergies and others.  Revision Septoplasty may lead to a septal perforation and additional issues that should be avoided. Finally, while septoplasty may be covered, although this is doubtful if it's already been done in 1987, Rhinoplasty isn't covered by insurance since it's purely cosmetic.
