Had mole removal and local anaesthetic was used. At 4am my lips became swollen and still have not gone down. What can I do?

I have had mole removal yesterday and local anaesthetic was used (at 5pm). I was also told to apply Fucidin, which I did (at 10pm). Around 4 am my lips became extremely swollen to the point I cannot talk properly and they still have not gone down. What can I do? They are not painful, just very swollen and making it difficult to eat or talk.

You did not mention if the mole you had removed was from your lip area or somewhere else.  I would recommend contacting the surgeon who removed your mole to get advice, since he or she will have the most information about you and your procedure.  In general, ice can help with swelling after surgery, but only if the swelling is at the same location of where the surgery was performed.  If you are having lip swelling and the surgery was not done near your lip, the swelling may be due to an allergic reaction.

Localized swelling is not uncommon and ice can be helpful. If BOTH lips are swollen, it may be unrelated to the biopsy and may represent an allergy or angioedema. I recommend that you contact your physician IMMEDIATELY. If you develop shortness of breath, call 9-1-1.

Was the mole removal on or near your lip? It would seem to me that if this happened after you applied the Fucidin, then you may have an allergy to that. I would avoid using this again and see your surgeon asap to have the area checked. "This
