My impression is that massage does help to reduce swelling, just like in medical cases of lymphedema, but it is not mandatory. But it helps with the resolution of swelling and feels good.You can do your own massages, or even just roll the area with a clean new paint roller or clean rolling pin from the kitchen.But it has not been studied scientifically, as far as I know.
