Should I be worried that a small mole on my ear has become bigger, redder and dry? (Photo)

I've had (what I thought) was a small mole on my ear for a while now - when I looked back at it today, it has gotten bigger, redder and the skin looks drier and peeling. The picture attached is from today when I had a look and noticed a difference. What could this be? Should I be worried?

Mole removal begins with a comprehensive examination and consultation to determine the likelihood of a mole being worrisome. Excisional and incisional biopsies are reserved for suspicious moles. But it’s good news that most moles are not problematic and are only cosmetic, thus leading to the option of scarless or non-surgical mole removal with lasers and RF and plasma. Thanks for your question and helpful photo.  You need to see a board certified dermatologist who will take a history and examine your skin carefully.  They will use a special instrument called a dermatoscope to really analyze your mole and determine if it needs a biopsy or removal.  Removal of a mole like this is quite simple - usually just a little bit of local anesthetic and a shave removal, which will be sent to the pathologist for microscopic analysis.  Don't worry, just go see a professional and someone with special expertise and board certification in skin.  Dermatologists do shave biopsies every day and will take good care of you.  Best of luck!

Thank you for your question and photograph. It's difficult to evaluate your skin through this type of forum. The area needs to be examined where a dermatologist can use a dermatoscope to assess for any irregularities, and if any are found, then a biopsy should be done. I highly recommend you consult with a board certified dermatologist to have your skin evaluated. Take care and good luck.
