Hi Beccarayo, Thank you for your question regrading is an upper back lift surgery is possible with scoliosis. Yes, a back lift is possible even if you have scoliosis or lateral curvature of the spine. There are two types of torsoplasties: vertical and horizontal torosplasty. Skin and fat can be eliminated from the back by two methods: vertical torsoplasty or horizontal torsoplasty. A horizontal torsoplasty is alternatively referred to as braplasty, bra strapplasty, upper back lift, bra lift, or upper body lift. A vertical torsoplasty is alternatively referred to as an hourglassing surgery. In a vertical torsoplasty, an incision is created from the axilla along the lateral aspect of the chest along the mid-axillary line. Tissue dissection is performed posteriorly towards the dorsal aspect. The lateral breast skin and adipose tissue are retracted anteriorly. A substantial expanse of excess lateral breast tissue and adipose is excised in a football-like configuration. The vertical torsoplasty scar is located along the midaxillary line and might be concealed when the arms are positioned at the sides. The vertical torsoplasty is conducted under general anesthesia and requires around 2-4 hours for completion. A drain is typically maintained for around 7 to 10 days. A 2-week recuperation period is necessary. To reduce scarring, swelling, and discomfort, a medical-grade compression garment is recommended for at least 6 weeks. The vertical torsoplasty is frequently performed in conjunction with the longitudinal brachioplasty. Typically, these incisions converge at the axillae. During a horizontal torsoplasty, an incision is made horizontally across the back. After the incision is made across your back, tissue dissection is carried down your back, and a butterfly-shaped area of back skin and fat is removed. The lower back is pulled up, and the final scar should be able to be hidden under a bra. Usually, the scar can be concealed under a bra strap (please ignore the bra strap scar concealment if you are a male). Two drains are placed and are usually removed 2 to 3 weeks after the procedure. The horizontal torsoplasty is performed under general anesthesia. Give yourself 2 -3 weeks to recover from a horizontal torsoplasty. I hope I have answered your question regarding whether an upper back lift surgery is possible with scoliosis. If you have any more questions regarding back liposuction, back lift, vertical torsoplasty, hour-glassing procedure, horizontal torsoplasty, bra strap plasty, or braplasty, contact an experienced plastic surgeon. Since the torsoplasty is a major procedure, please seek an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon with significant experience performing vertical and horizontal torsoplasty. Do your research. Make sure they have performed at least 100 torsoplasty surgeries and have the before-and-after pictures to prove it. Carefully examine their before-and-after photos and review their RealSelf profile. If you cannot find an experienced, torsoplasty plastic surgeon in your neighborhood, consider traveling out of state if you must. Sincerely, Dr. Katzen.
