The main reason to limit activity during the early post-op period is to avoid an increase in your blood pressure and potentially risking a bleed.

As you can imagine, there isn't a lot of research on this particular area.  That being said, the reason to curtail any strenuous physical activity is to avoid raising your blood pressure and heart rate so as to limit post operative bleeding and swelling.  If you did not notice any bleeding then it is unlikely that you caused any harm unless you did something really unusual.Don't be afraid to speak with your surgeon about any topic.  A professional is not going to make judgments about you.  Most surgeons have been asked far stranger questions and their goal is to give you the best possible result.  Making you feel bad will not help anyone's reputation but doing a good job and respectfully answering all questions can only help.  Best of luck to you.
