If I am prone to male pattern baldness, will hair loss on Accutane be more probable?

I know hair loss is a potential side effect on Accutane, but is it unrelated to male pattern baldness. Because I know woman get it too so maybe it is a separate thing. Also, I am on Finasteride so will that be sure to prevent hair thinning on Accutane? Hair loss is my biggest concern of the side effects of Accutane.

Thank you for your question, when finasteride has failed some doctors will use it. its best to be using PRP/stem cell (A Cell) injections, viviscal and topical minoxidil at the same time. Best, Dr. Emer

Isotretinoin does not cause hair loss very often. In a meta-analysis published in 2022, hair loss was observed in 3–6% of patients taking low doses of isotretinoin. The more Accutane is taken and the longer it is taken, the more hair loss may occur.Hair thinning or loss can be caused by Accutane (isotretinoin) due to its effect on the hair cycle, the increase in vitamin A, as well as the suppression of sebum production.

Hello and thank you for your question. One of the side effects of Accutane is hair loss, and it is difficult to predict who will experience it. You may or may not experience the side effect, and you can always stop treatment if needed.
