Is it okay to have Kenalog shots injected by a provider other than my original surgeon?

Question

I had a rhinoplasty 18 months ago. The nose looked perfect five months ago, but I noticed some reoccurring swelling recently at the tip. I reached out to my original surgeon and he wants to charge me a lot for the appointment and shots. I found another surgeon who's also very qualified willing to charge me a more reasonable amount. I know primary surgeon is best, but I was wondering if it's still a good idea to see the other qualified surgeon for evaluation and/or kenalog?

The only area of the nose that we inject steroids is to the “Supra-Tip”. This is the area just above the tip. of your surgeon is unable to assist you, please get a second opinion. Hope this helps! Dr Joseph

Switching surgeons for post op care depends on your comfort with the second surgeon and also the second surgeon's comfort in treating you.  You should be comfortable with the second surgeon but also realize that if you do like the results your initial surgeon may not want to resume your care.

In general, there is a continuing treatment, but many times people have surgery in a different city or a different country and it becomes challenging to travel for these injections. I suggest that if you want to have injections with a different provider, you should ask them size to do a smaller amount than what they would normally do just to make sure that the chance of complications is minimised.

Once you feel more comfortable with the treatment with the new surgeon, you will probably feel that you can allow them the latitude to decide what is best for you. This also gives the opportunity for the surgeon to evaluate your tissue response which varies from person to person.

Hard to say if kenalog injections would be of any benefit this far out from surgery. I always do these injections free of charge. Might be worth calling your original surgeon again. Hard to believe a surgeon would charge for it
