The sutures used for repair of muscle separation with a tummy tuck are usually permanent, but they are placed into living tissue so it is ultimately the healing process that provides the strength to the repair. Strong sutures can pull through weak tissue. If you felt something change suddenly with straining or exercise, then see your plastic surgeon for evaluation.
Dear dholmes5125,Yes sutures to fix the muscle typically are non absorbable which means they are supposed to be permanent. If they are rupture by any reason you would notice a bulge on the area. Notify your PS for a more adequate answer. Best wishes.
Muscle repair sutures can be either permanent or absorb able. Different surgeons will tell you why each is better. The truth is they both work although ideally on e would feel better about a suture that permanently holds things together. My personal experience is that long lasting but absorbable sutures will create a sufficient scar bond after several months without the need to have the sutures stay in permanently. Permanent sutures can react and be rejected by the body even years later and for that reason I never use them.
