The face can be washed gently while you are recovering from rhinoplasty, but if the cast has been removed and you are wearing nasal tape, you will want to continue to avoid getting the nose wet. I would recommend speaking with your surgeon, as they may have specific post-operative guidelines they would like you to follow. I hope this helps, and I wish you the best of luck.
As always, best to ask your surgeon what to do for postop care. I allow my patients to wash their face / skin with soap and water after I have removed their splints. good luck Dr Shifrin
After the splint is removed I let patients wash their face gently as long as they do not push on their nose.
Once your splint is off, soap and water can't hurt anything. Gentle at first if your nose is tender.
Light washing of the face with soap and water is okay. Try to avoid getting the splint wet. The pat your face dry.
Your surgeon's office should provide you some guidance on that question. Every surgeon has his own preference. It also depends on whether you had a cast or tape placed. I usually advice patients to keep the tape and nose as dry as possible but they are able to wash their face after the 2nd day.
Dear Ehelen, At nine days post rhinoplasty it is fine to wash your face and lightly wash your nose. You will want to use a mild soap and blot your face lightly dry when you are done. I have an aesthetician in the office who discusses with the patient's their post surgery skin care regimen. If your surgeon has an aesthetician please take advantage of her knowledge or discuss this with your surgeon so you may be put on a proper skin care program and make sure you are protecting your nose from the sun. Best regards, Michael V. Elam, M.D.
Hello Brittany, It sounds from your description that there may be some collapse. However, the "sinking" you described can also be due to a narrower passage on that side which in turn can be due to a septal deviation. The only way to find out is to be examined by an experienced nasal surgeon....
The rhinoplasty procedure would involve hump removal and osteotomies to close an open roof deformity. A glabellar cartilage graft may be required to build up the highest point of the bridge. A nasal spine resection along with trimming back the caudal septum is needed as well. Please see...
Stiffness in the nose is common for several months after rhinoplasty surgery. This should get better with time.
