I've had 2 consultations with 2 different Dr's for breast implant exchange. Dr #1 said he would do a Popcorn Capsuloraphy procedure with implant exchange Dr #2 said he would do a popcorn capsulorrhaphy with implant exchange. Can someone please tell me what the difference is between a Capsulorrhaphy and a Capsuloraphy procedure?

Answer: What is the difference between popcorn capsuloraphy and popcorn capsulorrhaphy? Ok not to be snarky but the only difference is that one is spelled correctly. Capsulorrhaphy is the correct version which basically means manipulation of the pocket where the implant sits. In this case, it is most common to tighten the pocket.

Answer: Difference Both terms may mean the same thing to most surgeons, but the two R term is used more often by most. Both refer to tightening or reshaping the capsules.

Now there may be differences between how one surgeon and the other surgeon actually do their capsulorrhaphies and there may be different thoughts between how effective a popcorn capsulorrhaphy is, but it is probably just that Dr. #1 inadvertently left an "r" out of the spelling. I would recommend consulting with a board certified plastic surgeon with good experience with breast implant surgery including exchanges. Make sure you have all of your questions answered and that you feel comfortable with your potential surgeon.
