It is usually recommended to keep the JP drains in until there is less than 30 mL over 24 hours. The time the JP drain is in can range from 1 to 3 weeks.  Every patient is different and it is up to your surgeon to determine when your JP drain needs to come out. Most patients can return to work after two weeks as long as there is no heavy lifting and or pulling.it is not unusual to feel drained after surgery because your body is using a lot of energy to heal. Good nutrition, rest, and time will ultimately resolve this issue. 

Thank you for your question. Usually I remove drain when it is less than 30 cc a day. Lifting kids I recommend to wait 3-4 weeks and it depending on how you are healing. If everything looks fine can go to desk job in 2 weeks. Please clarify with your surgeon.

With massive weight loss a fleur-de-lis is sometimes recommended.  The drains often do not get removed until less than 30 cc of drainage has occurred in a 24 hr period. Most of my patients can go back to desk work at 1-2 weeks even with the drains.
