Can I have Emsculpt done with a copper IUD?

Thank you for your question.  I would avoid doing EmSculpt if you have a copper IUD or any other metal implant near the treatment zone as the Electro magnetic fields may heat the metal.  I’m glad that you did not have any issue with our treatment.  You may want to consider a non-metal alternative to the copper IUD.

Any metal in the treatment area is considered a contraindication to the use of EMSculpt. If someone has an artificial knee, I have no problem treating their abdomen or buttocks, but if they have any metal in their abdomen, like a copper IUD, I would not do the treatment. EMSculpt should not be performed if there is metal present to avoid possible injury to the tissue around the metal. For your safety, I do not recommend EmSculpt while you have the copper IUD. Plastic IUD’s should be a non-issue.

The Paraguard IUD is a copper IUD.  This would be an absolute contraindication to treatment with Emsculpt or Emsella.  
The Emsculpt uses HIFEM(High Intensity Focused Electromagnetic) energy.  Because of the Magnetic energy component, metal anywhere in the treatment area will heat up.  I am glad to hear that you had no problems during your session but I would recommend no further treatments be done until you can have your IUD removed or replaced with a non- metal alternative.

Thank you for your question. Since the device uses a powerful magnet to do its job, the concern would be that a copper metal IUD could become dislodged, or it could heat up due to the energy. We were told that was a "contraindication" to the treatment (in other words, it should not be offered). Our rep also told us that he was aware of many clinics still offering it to these women and that no adverse events had been reported, but our office will be sticking to the guidelines. Emsculpt uses noninvasive HIFEM (High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic) technology to induce powerful muscle contractions.  The depth of penetration is 7cm. The company recommends no metal in the body, but your IUD depth is well beyond 7 cm and so you should be fine to have the treatment.   Hope this helps.
