May I use Neosporin and Saran wrap as a bandage after laser tattoo removal? (Photos)

Question

May I use plastic wrap and Neosporin to protect it during the first few sensitive days? The morning after my first treatment, the bandage was stuck to me and no amount of soaking would loosen it. Sheets of my skin came off with the bandage. It was excruciating! I never want that to happen again.Also would oral antibiotics be a good idea to prevent the possibility of infection?

Thank you for your question in regards to tattoo removal. Saran wrap can be used to avoid having a bandage stick to your tattoo, although neosporin is not usually recommended. If no specific post-care cream was recommended from your provider, bacitracin can be applied if the tattoo blisters, if not, aquaphor is suggested during the healing period. To be sure what is best for you, see two or more board-certified providers in your area for a complete evaluation to make sure you are a good candidate and that it is safe for you to have treatment. I hope this helps.

the Saran wrap and a topical antibiotic are fine. Rather than tape it to your skin, it is better to use something like an ace wrap or kerlix. - just something that you can wrap around the saran wrap but does not tape to your skin which will irritate it. you only need to protect it as long as it is raw and sore. there is NO role for oral antibiotics since infections are rare and using an oral antibiotic will only select out resistent bacteria, it will mess up your gut flora. david berman md
