After getting veneers, your teeth should not be painful. This is not normal for your teeth to hurt, so hear are three of the most likely causes of tooth pain after veneers and what I recommend that you do about it.#1: Pain in veneered tooth may be caused by a bite that is off. Solution: return to your cosmetic dentist and have them adjust your bite. This should take 5-10 minutes in the dental chair and could require more than one visit if the bite is still off after one return visit to your dentist.#2: You could have an open margin and subsequent cavity under your veneer. Solution: Return to your dentist and have them inspect, probe and x-ray the area, so that they may find the cavity and fill it.#3: You could have some prolonged nerve sensitivity.Solution: Give it about 4-6 weeks to see if it goes away on it's own. Try using tooth paste for sensitive teeth and refrain from very hot or very cold foods and beverages. If no resolution of pain with the 4-6 weeks, you should return to your dentist for a closer exam to determine if you may need a root canal. Option 3 should be your last option in the case of a veneered tooth. You should only exercise this option of a root canal after you have tried the first two options. Good luck and I hope this helps.
