Acne prone and oily skin can be pre-treated with Retin A cream prior to Venus Viva treatments. I have my patients continue their Retin A until literally the night before the procedure. If the skin is very scaly and flaky I ask them to reduce the amount and frequency of retin a usage.I have been very pleasantly surprised that none of my patients with darker skin color (Asian skin, Hispanic and Middle eastern skin) have developed brown spots and post inflammatory hyper-pigmentation after Venus Viva. Having said that in patients with a very strong history of blotchy brown pigmentation after laser or other cosmetic procedures a course of Hydroquinone creams are also indicated.
Thank you for your question. I would not recommend having a Venus Viva treatment while using Retin-A. In my experience, stopping Retin-A gel or cream 3-5 days prior to Venus Viva treatment is appropriate in minimizing risks and complications of hyperpigmentation or irritation with treatment. I highly recommend you consult with a certified technician for Venus Viva treatments regarding your questions and concerns. Take care and good luck.
