Maxillary advancement resulting in wider nostrils?

Question

I'm told I'd need a double jaw surgery to correct my moderate obstructive sleep apnea. I read a few posts from people who've done the Lefort on their upper jaw which resulted in noticeably wider nostrils. Is it a side effect of Lefort or something that may or may not happen? How probable is that? Thank you for your responses.

Thank you for the question. It is a common occurrence for the ala width to be wider following LeFort surgery so most surgeons control this by placing ala cinch sutures at the end of the surgery. The end result should be no difference between before and after surgery in regards to the width.

Thank you for your question.A Lefort where the maxilla is brought forward does splay the nose and can make the nostrils look wider.  When I do this surgery I do pyriform apeture contouring to help keep the nasal airway open.  I also do a synching stitch to keep the nostrils from splaying too wide. I think many surgeons do this during the procedure

Good question. It is a risk with Lefort. However, if clinician take time during surgery and follow certain steps, then the risk becomes  minimum
