Hello! Thank you for your question.Upper and lower eyelid blepharoplasty surgeries are performing under the general anesthesia. Therefore you do not need to afraid of panicking. Best Regards!
Make sure you are comfortable with the goals and indications for surgery. Make sure you're comfortable with your surgeon and the team. Ask all of your questions now. Write things down.Discuss your concerns with your surgeon and ask your surgeon what options you have for any type of anxiolysis - ways to reduce your anxiety. There are many options, but these are individualized for each surgeon based on the facility, experience, and preference. Some ways to manage this would be: oral premedication, intravenous medications (before and during the procedure), and inhaled gases such as nitrous oxide. Listening to calming music, talking to your team (if awake enough), and meditation can all be helpful.
Your surgeon may prescribe you a medication to help keep you calm during your surgery. If you have a lot of anxiety about having these procedures performed under local anesthesia you may be a better candidate to have general anesthesia for your comfort and safety. I encourage you to speak with your surgeon about your concerns.
Hello @Jo needham 66, thank you for your question. In my opinion the best way to perform upper and lower eyelid surgery is under general anesthesia. That say, If you begin to feel anxious or panicked during the procedure, it is crucial to communicate your concerns to your surgeon or their medical team. They can offer you additional support and guidance to help you feel more comfortable and alleviate any fears you may have. Best wishes! Alan Gonzalez MD, FACS.
