Can I have the consultation on the same day as the surgery? Or maximum how long would the wait be?

Many patients fly into the country to have surgery.  As long as your surgeon is an expert at all of these procedures this may be reasonable.  The time between consultation and surgery can often be coordinated.

This is all very fast, but it can happen. Every board certified PS is different, so make sure you find one where you are traveling to that forms a plan with you. In my practice I would have to obtain the necessary labs there in  England and fax or email them to my office ASAP. If you are healthy with no medical problems and take no real medication and your labs look good we would do the consultation via SKYPE with photos sent by email. You would then come in person the day before the planned surgery for your pre-op appt and surgery would be the next day. 

First, you are best to have it done locally so you can get appropriate post-op care.  In my office, I have to see patients in advance of surgery to make sure that they are an appropriate candidate and the appropriate work-up is performed. A general review and information can be given in advance but an exam in person a few days prior to surgery would be appropriate. Good luck.

Be very careful not to be tricked by gimmicks and do your research. Plan to have a responsible caregiver. If you are traveling by yourself then call ahead and get recommendations from your surgeons office about places to stay and reliable post operative caregivers that they have used before.
