Polytech polyurethane textured implants, are they safe? I’m meant to be having surgery in 3 weeks.

Question

I understand these implants are not used in US but are used in UK. I am worried that after a period of time the texture will remove and may lead to cancer. Are they safe? I was having Octicon teardrop that provides cleavage and upper fullness extra high profile. Is there an implant that Mentor do without the texture that will give me the same result as the Polytech implant. Pls help I’m meant to be having surgery in 3 weeks and am now in two minds to cancel as I don’t know enough.Thank you.

Polyurethane implants have been used safely for many years in Europe and South America especially so I would personally not consider them unsafe .
Their many advantage is that the rate of capsular contracture is veri very low.
They require a more precise technique as they do not move or "settle" after surgery so need to be placed in the right place straightaway .
In terms of shape and size you can find equivalent pretty much with ny other implant.

Polyurethane has been used safely for years. There were no adverse effects associated with its use which isn't normal complications seen in any other implant. The only disadvantage you will find is that these implants do not settle even after your body has fully healed, which means they have to be placed right on their final position during the surgery itself.

Hello Devvas,Thank you for your question.I think there are a lot of positives about polyurethane foam implants, but they are controversial.  I have included a link to a blog post that I have written about them.There are good things and bad things about all implants and you really need to balance the risks to decide what is best for you.  I would recommend that you have another visit with your surgeon so that you can go over things because you are obviously in two minds.Don't worry because Polytech polyurethane implants are very good and I use them a lot.  However, Mentor implants are good too, so you need to have that discussion.If you are on Facebook, I do a Live Q&A every Tuesday at 7pm on The Staiano Clinic Facebook page and I will talk about this tomorrow night if you would like to tune in.Good luck.
