Question

I'm thinking about having a chin implant abroad, how long after the procedure is it to fly back? What can happen if I fly back too soon? They will be using a silicone implant, with also lipo under chin, and it will be a 2 hour flight from Poland to uk

In general, flying has the potential to exacerbate any swelling that is present from your surgery. The general guideline is to wait around one week, if possible. I would see how you feel following the procedure, and not push yourself if you are not up to it. This may increase swelling and delay your healing time. I would ask this question of your surgeon, just to find out what his or her preference would be. There really should be no risk to fly after a chin implant is placed or after liposuction of the neck, but your doctor may want you to be around for a few days for follow-up care.

It is acceptable to fly approximately a week after the procedure as long as the surgeon has given the okay and you have had adequate postoperative followup.

Dear Kelly,

	In my practice I operate on a lot of patients from out of state. Depending on their procedure is when I give a release to depart home. This is all dependent on whether I have made arrangements for a back up surgeon in  their hometown for follow up or if all suture removal etc and follow up will need to be done under my care.
