Should my breast implant incision scars look like this 3 months post-op? (photos)

I'm almost 13 weeks post-op and my scars seem very red and raised. Is it normal for them to look like this? I also think they are huge compared to others that I have seen. I've been using bio oil but i'm not sure that its doing anything. Is there anything I can do to make them look better?

Dear Catqueeeeen,currently, the only proven method of reducing scar hypertrophy is silicone based products or hydrocortisone injections. Laser treatment will probably reduce the redness. Based on your description, it would be best that you visit your plastic surgeon for an in person examination. Thanks for the question and photos.  It appears your scars may be a little hypertrophic.  This means your body has continued to produce scar tissue beyond what is needed for healing.  This can lead to raised, red, itchy scars.  In my practice, I treat these with steroid injections and laser.  Hope that helps!

It is not uncommon for scars to remain red for up to a year, sometimes as long as 2 years.  That being said, silicone gel sheets or products would probably help them fade much sooner if you are prone to hypertrophic scars.  Your surgeon can help guide you toward healing as quickly as possible.
