And what kind of exercises are allowed and which ones are not? Can I wear a gym bra or stick to my medical bra? I prefer to go back as soon as possible without putting myself at risk - please advise

Thank you for your inquiry. Three to four weeks is good afterwards, depending on your overall health. You should wear a supportive bra and start out gradually with exercising.

The appropriate time for exercise after any breast surgery is based upon two factors.

First, there is a period of time, generally 10 to 14 days, in which one can exert themselves, cause harm such as bleeding and create a permanent problem with the breast results desired.  This time should be discussed with your surgeon.

Secondly, there is a period of time that exercise, even in a supportive high impact sports bra would be uncomfortable.  Pain at this time may not be permanently harmful but using pain as a cue it would be hard to tell.  I recommend the use of a supportive bra at all times after breast surgery until you are comfortable without the bra for an extended period of time.  Gradually increase your activities and if you have no pain or swelling then exercise should be tolerated without permanent harm.
