I have mostly mild flushing type rosacea with sensitive skin. I do not have any active breakouts and normally don't have any issues with papules/pustules seen with certain types of rosacea. My skin also deals with a bit of hyperpigmentation. I can no longer use retin a due to the sensitivity of my skin but was wondering if light treatment with skinpen would help over time with fine lines around my eyes and upper cheeks along with pore size. NOT expecting major changes though
Answer: Microneedling - Rosacea Hello, and thank you for your post! This is a great question because there are many excellent options for treating rosacea and redness on sensitive skin, including microneedling. SkinPen in particular may be a good option for you because it is most often recommended for fine lines and wrinkles, but it can also help with rosacea. You may also want to explore dermarolling treatments, which can be an excellent choice for treating rosacea and fine lines, particularly in combination with a plasma-rich platelet (PRP) treatment. Other avenues include a laser treatment like Laser Genesis, or an intense pulsed light (IPL) treatment, both of which can also effectively reduce redness and fine lines. You say that you do not expect much of a difference, but any of these treatments may pleasantly surprise you. You should schedule a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon in your area -- with an in-person assessment of your skin type and rosacea, they will be able to tell you which technique would work best for you. Good luck!

Answer: Logical treatments with microneedling Yes, it can help with fine lines and pore sizing. Flip side is that it may flare up rosacea. The truth is that any laser and or trauma (microneedling, RF, RF microneedling, medium depth peel, irritating peels) can flare up rosacea. I do not agree that microneedling is an effective and PREDICTABLE treatment for rosacea. I would be hesitant to recommend this treatment if you have rosacea. To meet your end goals I would prescribe the following 1. PDL or pulse dye laser 3-6 sessions. Add vvvv low dose tretinoin topically - titrate according to your flare/ improvement 2. 1064 Nd Yag- Genesis mode- this will address some redness but stimulate collagen. Gentle treatments. 3. If needed and nothing else available 755 or 810 diode. 4. If you want a good collagen and pore size reduction- 1927 Thulium or diode driven laser. Conservative overlaps, followed by 595 PDLDo not limit your treatments to microneedling only- many other methods beyond this discussion to address your concerns. (micro-Botox etc,,,) all the best, Dr Davin S. Lim
