Temple filler complications - should I get it dissolved?

Question

I had Restalyne placed in my temples about one month ago. After a few days I experienced pain and swelling and was given prednisone and an antibiotic. Then I started having swelling in other parts of my face where I had previously had filler. I'm still having issues with swelling, numbness and tingling. My doctor has referred me to a plastic surgeon. I'm scared about getting the filler dissolved because I've read some scary things about that. Any advice?

Longterm filler problems include migration, edema, and nodularity. Filler migration and permanence is a very common problem because there are many different types of HA fillers on the market and each is specified for a specific part of the face. Use of highly cohesive fillers on thin skin may cause swelling and nodularity. If patients have filler migration or nodules, we recommend a combination approach of filler reversal with enzymes Hylenex and Hyaluronidase in different strengths to dissolve the filler. We may also need to add Kenalog to the mix in order to reduce fibrous tissue. If the filler does not dissolve, it either means the filler is not HA material or we need more enzyme. The HA reversal can be combined with other lasers and skin treatments at the same time, and it usually (usually) does not affect adjacent tissue.

I don’t think your problems will go until the product has gone. I am sorry you having issues.Since you have swelling in other parts of the face, not just where it was placed, I would recommend seeing a cosmetic surgeon or a dermatologist and see if they can do systemic treatment. If swelling resolved, there will be no need to dissolve anything. I would consider different filler in future.Take some antihistamines daily until you see a specialist.I also recommend to get injections only from a person who is able to treat the complications.
