Hi there I have developed an oily scalp for a couple of years now, when I touch my scalp with my fingers, I can see the trace of oil on my fingers as soon as one day after shampooing ...I also having a diffusive thinning hair problem, are they related? whats the remedy for an oily scalp ? Thank you

Oily skin is not related to diffuse thinning of hair.  If you have hair loss or having oily skin/scalp issues see a doctor for an examination to find possible causes and treatment options.

If you have thinning hair you really need an evaluation to see if it is genetic or from another cause like stress or autoimmune.  If it is determined to be genetic there are many options and traditional treatments like rogaine foam and propecia pills can be used.  I have great success in my practice using injectable progesterone and PRP to the scalp.  I suggest seeing a dermatologist with expertise in hair loss.  Best, Dr. Emer.

Dear Abraham93357,You may wish to see a dermatologist for careful review of exactly what is causing your oily scalp. A number of possibilities exist although the most likely causes areseborrheic dermatitispityriasis capitis (dandruff)Usually these don't contribute much to hair loss themselves but are often seen in younger individuals with genetic hair loss. Be sure to see a dermatologist to confirm. If an individual's oily scalp turns out to be from seborrheic dermatitis or dandruff, use of anti- inflammatory shampoos often works great. If you have an excessively oily scalp and if you did not have this condition since your birth, it is best to get a dermatologist to check the situation. Oily scalp can result in unwanted scalp conditions and it is easy to control it once you know its reason. If the level of oil is acceptable, I would recommend to use a gentle shampoo that can control the level of oil in the scalp.In order to reach a conclusion whether or not the two are related, you can get a quick consultation at a hair surgeon or at a dermatologist.

Is best treated by trying various hair shampoos made for oily scalp and one of them may work well for you. You must experiment by trying many until you find the right one.
