Im trying to understand how does taping work. Does taping maintain shape? When you apply pressure when applying tape does that reduce scar tissue? And why are thick skinned patients advised to tape longer than usual?

Answer: Taping after rhinoplasty Thanks for your question. Taping is a routine post-operative treatment in rhinoplasty patients. For thin to normal-skinned patients, they get tape and a cast for a week after their surgery. For thick skinned patients, the taping definitely helps to allow the skin to stick down to the new framework and helps limit swelling in the dorsum. There was a really good study about this a few years ago that was done in Turkey. They found that it really helps if you do it for a month. Beyond that, I can't really say. It certainly wouldn't hurt. Good luck!
