Im trying to understand how does taping work. Does taping maintain shape? When you apply pressure when applying tape does that reduce scar tissue? And why are thick skinned patients advised to tape longer than usual?
Answer: Taping after rhinoplasty Thanks for your question. Taping provides outside pressure that decreases swelling of the nose while you heal. Thick skinned patients have more soft tissue where swelling can occur, so they often have more swelling after surgery. Because of this, some surgeons will recommend prolonged taping regiment. I do not feel that taping longer changes the ultimate result faster. In some cases, if you are not using a degreaser to remove the tape, pulling up on the tape may further aggravate the soft tissue underneath and cancel out the benefit of taping (this is one argument made by those who do not use prolonged taping regimens, but I am not aware of any evidence for or against this).

Answer: What does taping after rhinoplasty EXACTLY do? Could taping at 2 months and a half help in thick skinned patients? Hello. Great question. Taping does not reduce scar tissue. Taping can help with pressure and swelling. Keep following up with your surgeon as he is the one who knows your condition. Best of luck with your recovery. Congratulations on your rhinoplasty.

Answer: Generally 10-12 day for taping will be enough First of all, thank you for giving me the opportunity to answer a very good question. After nose aesthetics, if the work was done with the back and side walls of the nose during 5-7 day cast ( Plastic material that takes shape in hot water) ) on the bottom of the taping application necessarily that I apply in the last stage of the surgery . If only the nasal tip plasty work or nostril reduction ( alar base surgery ) is done, it is sufficient to apply a tapes to the nasal tip and no cast is required. In my practice, I remove cast and tapings on the 7th day. After cleansing the nasal skin, I apply a second taping too which will be remain for 5 days more . Patient is removed after 5 day later, when the softens in the shower, after remove these second tapings and nose remains completely open. In summary, after a total of 10-12 days, taping is finished. Taping very essential at this 10-12 day coz of after surgery nasal back is edematous. Moreover tapings helpfully psychology due to conceal edema, swollen appearance and bruise. After this period, I absolutely recommend the application of massages for 6-8 months. I beleive these massage very helpfull to reduce edema and perfect shape of the new nose . The benefit of the taping and subsequent massage application is not only for edema, but also on the cartilage and bone new formations too. I do not prefer 10-12 days after the taping application, but do not forget that the best thing to know what is done in the surgery is your own doctor. In this respect, I believe that it is best to proceed in line with the advice of your physician recommending tapings. Best wishes

Answer: Taping after rhinoplasty Thanks for your question. Taping is a routine post-operative treatment in rhinoplasty patients. For thin to normal-skinned patients, they get tape and a cast for a week after their surgery. For thick skinned patients, the taping definitely helps to allow the skin to stick down to the new framework and helps limit swelling in the dorsum. There was a really good study about this a few years ago that was done in Turkey. They found that it really helps if you do it for a month. Beyond that, I can't really say. It certainly wouldn't hurt. Good luck!
