There are no set age restrictions for cosmetic surgery if legal consent is obtained by patients over the age of 18 or by parental consent for minors. Common sense dictates prudent medical judgment.There are certainly times where it is appropriate to perform cosmetic surgery on patients under the age of 18. Parental consent is always required for these types of procedures. Thank you for your clinical post and question. There are some excellent techniques for
liposuction of the double chin. Modern
techniques such as SmartLipo or BodyTite and NeckTite allow for removal of fat
and significant soft tissue contraction to give a neck lift life result through
a very tiny port under the chin. It is
very important, however, you wait until you have achieved both skeletal and
soft tissue maturity and generally this is 18 or 19 years old. To do any surgery prior to the age of 18 may
be premature, as soft tissue growth including fat deposition may not have completed
its course. A healthy person should diet
and exercise and nutritional selections will be important prior to this and a
frank discussion with your parents about your concerns.

There are some non-traditional techniques such as Kybella to
the submentum and bulk heating radio frequency energy devices such as BodyFx
and Venus Freeze that can improve the contour prior to age of maturity and this
would require a consultation with your parents at a facility with significant
experience in these techniques.
