It's unlikely that taking probiotics is leading to your hair loss. I suggest seeing a hair loss expert to evaluate and go over your condition and provide you information about your best treatment options. There are great non-invasive options like PRP/progesterone and/or hair transplantation. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer
To my knowledge there is no reliable data to suggest probiotics cause hair loss-and they're good for the colon!
Although the most common cause of hair loss is androgenetic alopecia (or androgen-related hair loss), there are multiple "other causes" for hair loss, particularly in women. These other causes (just to name a few) include thyroid disorders, low iron or vitamin deficiencies, anemia, certain medications, autoimmune conditions (such as alopecia areata), and scarring conditions of the scalp. These are relative uncommon causes for hair loss, but the treatment varies for each of these conditions. It is doubtful that probiotics is the cause for your hair loss. But if you are at all concerned about the probiotics, I would stop taking them. A proper history and physical exam by a hair expert is necessary to determine the actual cause of your hair loss. Once the actual cause of hair loss is determined, appropriate treatment can be administered.
I have never heard of a case where hair loss has been caused by any type of probiotic supplement. If you are suffering from hair loss that started around the same time it is most likely coincidence and most likely androgenic alopecia or male pattern baldness. I would suggest coming in to see me for a full assessment in a complimentary consultation, seeing as you are located in the Toronto area as well.
There is no association that I am aware of that connects taking probiotics resulting in hair loss. Hair loss is most often genetic
