Lip has lost volume / has scarring from cyst removal. Also am having trouble drinking. Pictures are 1 week post-op. An ENT performed the surgery and I am seeing her in two days to discuss options. I am wondering which approach I should take, I am nervous about undergoing another surgery as this one turned out unexpectedly bad. I want my lips to look symetrical and still have volume. Leaning towards fillers at this time but I need a professional opinion. Thank You
Answer: Lip deformity Dear Jeybre, The pictures you sent show a noticeable soft tissue swelling of the left lower lip. It is very common following lip surgery and removal of cysts of a persistent swelling asymmetries, particularly in the lip, which is quite sensitive in vascular tissue. The best advice would be to see your operative surgeon to ensure there’s no complication with the cyst removal, such as soft tissue infection or excessive swelling or hematoma. Generally, following cyst removal surgery, patience and conservative observation of wound healing is the best course of action. Generally, over time, the operative area will settle and resolve and not be apparent. The rest of the lip can then be balanced and volumized with soft tissue fillers, but I would not advise this prior to at least three months following the operative procedure. I trust this is of some assistance. Best of luck. R. Stephen Mulholland, M.D. Certified Plastic Surgeon Yorkville, Toronto
