Is lip augmentation right for me? Will it make my nose look smaller or more narrow? Will it hide my gummy smile? (photos)

Question

I'm 25 spanish female. To start, I have a rather thin upper lip. My upper lip is far from the tip of my nose. I like my regular smile but I have an over bite which makes me have a gummy smile when I smile big. I want to know if I'm a candidate for this procedure; if so, will it hide my gummy smile or make it worse? Also will it make my nose appear wider or smaller? I also have questions about Nosal narrowing but I'll make another post. Thank you.

There have never been more nonsurgical options to improve the appearance of the lips than today.  The introduction of haluronic acid (HA) fillers has opened the door to many new approaches that are safe and effective for many conditions and patients.  These have low complication rates and in the hands of an experienced surgeon you could see a significant improvement with minimal recovery.  I would recommend you seek a board certified plastic surgeon who has experience with lip enhancements for your unique concerns.  Good luck!

Thank you for your question and the pictures. First thing to say is that you have attractive lips and a very nice smile. Anatomically, you have a thinner upper lip compared to the lower lip and this is partly related to why you see more of your teeth and gums on smiling.
In terms of options to treat this - lip filler with hyaluronic acid is useful and can give a fuller appearance to the upper lip such that it balances the lower lip and reduces the amount of gum and teeth that can be seen. Surgically this can also be achieved by the use of permalip lip implants. However, it is advisable to try filler first before going straight for implants.
Neither procedure will disrupt your nose anatomy if done correctly and your lips are kept in the appropriate proportions to maintain your facial harmony.

Gummy smile can be treated with botox in some instances.  Lip fillers will augment the lip an may blunt some of the gummy show.  True treatment of the gummy smile is performed with maxillary bone resection.
