Butt implants really hurting 7 days post op?

Question

I am 7 days post off app from butt implant procedure and my right butt cheek is in a severe amount of pain. I cannot walk right and I cannot bend down to use the washroom. My surgeon told me this was normal and that it is part of the recovery process. I am out of painkillers that he prescribed. Should I renew my prescription or should I move to Advil and Tylenol ?? I’ve been taking pain killers every 4 hours to deal wiith the pain and if I’m late by 1 hour the pain is just unbearable. Please help

Dear Amby,     Posterior and side view pictures would have been very helpful. You did not provide information about the implants' pocket location - intra muscular or sub fascial.    I use the sub fascial technique on my butt implants patients and I noticed that the  the pain is usually gone within 3-4 days after surgery. My patients use the narcotics pain medication for 2-3 days , in a gradual decreasing dosage, that is converted to Tylanol as needed. Intra muscular technique is a much more painful procedure and the pain can last much longer.   It is concerning , though, that your pain is mainly on one side, which bring to mind the possibility of hematoma. Hopefully, the reassurance that you received from your surgeon is not based on your telephone conversation, but rather on direct examination of your butt.    If you were not seen by your surgeon , I would strongly recommend that you call his office and ask to be seen asap and rule out hematoma.                     Best of luck,                                          Dr Widder

Buttock implants are often one of themes painful procedures that we do.  However, you should check with you surgeon to make sure your pains not out of the ordinary.

Gluteal implants hurt. It is one of the most painful procedures I do. It not unusual to still be in significant pain at 7 days post op. Having said this, I am always concerned when one side hurts much more than the other. One sided pain can be caused by hematoma, infection, or other issues. If you have seen your surgeon and there is no concern for a complication, then I would wait and see.. I would try to decrease the pain medicine, but if pain is still unbearable, go back and see your surgeon.Eric Weiss MD
