My top lip sits much further back than my bottom, would filler help this issue? (Photo)

My top lip looks pretty flat and almost disappears in my side profile, while my bottom lip sticks out normally. I had braces when i was younger and have perfectly straight teeth, so its not the result of an underbite. Would fillers correct this issue, and is there anything else i can do to bring the lip more forward?

Relax. This problem is a routine and fairly easy one for an experienced filler injector to treat. The upper lip vermilion border can be accentuated (a filler lip lift) with the appropriate use of a low viscosity, cohesive HA filler and the body of the lip can be improved in both volume and projection with still another HA filler. Both procedures can be done in the same session and, in the hands of an experienced filler injector, can be completed in about ten to fifteen minutes with immediate, on-the-spot results. The bottom lip is supposed to be fuller than the top. You do have a small upper lip which can be improved with fillers. However, please keep the bottom lip larger than the top.

The upper lip volume can be improved permanently with a surgery called a VY plasty, which is what I recommend in this case. This adjusts the tissue from inside the mouth to improve the volume of the red part of the lip. The white skin portion of the upper lip appears short and that is why a subnasal lip lift may not be an option. The subnasal lip lift helps the upper lip face forward instead of facing downward toward the ground. An in-person evaluation would be able to determine whether you are a candidate. If filler is added to the upper lip, it may help some, but it is limited due to the direction that your upper lip faces and because the muscle of your upper lip appears strong. In these cases, it can be difficult to get the filler to contour the lip (the indents on either side of the middle of the upper lip are usually resistant to increased volume from filler).

Individuals who have a significant overbite will usually have an upper lip that has more forward projection than those who have a neutral dental occlusion.
I typically don’t recommend augmenting only the upper lip because it distort the natural upper to lower lip ratio.
