My teeth move, should I go back to the dentist?

I'm not sure if you had a scaling and root planning (deep cleaning) or a root canal (where the nerve is taken out of the tooth root).  From your description, I would guess that you have periodontal disease with bone loss.  The best treatment for this condition is a scaling and root planning treatment that actually removes the bacteria from the roots of your teeth.  This will not restore mobility to your teeth instantly, but as you continue to maintain proper oral hygiene, your gums become stronger and the hold your teeth with greater integrity of the tissue.Conversely, a root canal removes the nerve and has nothing to do with the mobility of the tooth.  I would continue proper hygiene and see your dentist at your 3 month perio follow-up.Good luck to you and just follow me if you have more question.  Take care.Sarah Thompson, DMD

had a deep cleaning instead? Chronic mobility should be addressed through
periodontal treatments, and possibly splints or fixed devices to help ensure
stability and encourage reattachment of soft tissues.

Shelley, it sounds like your dentist did root canal treatments on both your front teeth,  If they were loose, the looseness was caused by the infection destroying the bone around the teeth, thus less bone support around the teeth.  Gradually, with the infection gone, the bone should heal and regenerate.  That will NOT happen over night.  May take several months.The antibiotics certainly help the situation, and one week of antibiotics should help your own immune system heal.  If your body is not healing after the root canal, then long term use of antibiotics won't solve the problem.  I agree with your dentist in the one week time period.Should you go back to your dentist to have him check to see if you are having normal healing...ABSOLUTELY!  If you are still having an acute infection the dentist may have to clean it out and drain it, and reinstate antibiotics.  Be patient.  Root canal therapy is VERY SUCCESSFUL, as long term success rate is 85-90%, much higher than most major surgeries.  However, even with this high success rate, not every tooth is saved.  Sometimes the infection is so bad that the root canal has to be redone.  Sometimes a minor surgical procedure needs to be done.  Sometimes the tooth has a crack in it that nothing in the world can be done to save it.
