I want a drastic change in a small amount of time. I am considering veneers/crowns. My front teeth protrude significantly and I realize just putting veneers will still keep the protrusion. Is it possible to have my teeth ground down for crowns and correct the overjet? Please don't tell me Invisalign or braces as an option, thanks.
Answer: Veneers and crowns will work well, but... Veneers would be great, but you must use Invisalign to retract your front teeth first. The ONLY other option would be to pull both of your front teeth and place implants or a bridge. This would give you instant results, but at the cost of loosing teeth. Having been a cosmetic dentist for over 10 years and having completed some of the most complex cases known to cosmetic dentistry, I would highly recommend using Invisalign first, then veneers and crowns to make your teeth perfect. I know this is not what you want to hear, but it's my professional recommendation. Good luck and I hope this helps. Follow me if you have anymore questions.Sarah Thompson, DMD

Answer: Would veneers/crowns help me achieve a straight smile? Im 26 and do not want braces although I have an overjet! Yes, you "could" have improvement with veneers or crowns. But based on the amount of flaring, overjet and spacing your have, I do not believe that you will get the "drastic change" that you want. I don't say this flippantly, as I am an experienced cosmetic dentist, but based on the severity of your malocclusion, orthodontics, and possibly jaw surgery, is the optimal way to get the "drastic change" you are asking for.Another concern, is that your front central incisors are so labially inclined (leaning out to the outside of your mouth), that you would most likely require root canals on both teeth because of the amount of drilling away of the teeth to place crowns or veneers and a more normal angle. Again, based on the severity of your malocclusion, highly recommend you see a good orthodontist and do the "right treatment" to give you the smile that you're seeking.Below is a link to a number of malocclusions that I have treated with porcelain veneers or crowns, something cosmetic dentists oftentimes refer to as "instant orthodontics" and you'll clearly see that your situation is much worse than any of these shown.

Answer: Veneers could help improve your smile aesthetics and alignment Porcelain veneers will help to improve the alignment and overjet of your teeth, but it will be a question of how ideal the improvement will be. I recommend having a consult with an aesthetic dentist. They will take impressions and do a waxup simulation of what your veneers could look like. Depending on full evaluation, your case may be able to be treated with veneers to achieve ideal positioning, or at least achieve an acceptable improvement. Sometimes for severe cases a combination of invisalign and veneers is the best option. All these details can only be determined after studying models of the patient's mouth.
