Wearing your compression garment as directed and downsizing it when it is loose, are critical to the management of swelling after lipo. Arnica may be of benefit topically, also consider increased consumption of papayas and pineapples. Please keep in mind that localized swelling after lipo is a common and expected side effect of the procedure. Hoping this finds you well.
Hello,For my patients I recommend they start Ibuprofen 48 hours post procedure. We also have them begin Arnica or Sinecch prior to beginning the surgery. It will help if you avoid high sodium foods because that will enhance bloating. It is best to try and be patient since full healing can be 9 month to a year.
It can take 3-6 months for final results with Smart lipo. I suggest lymphatic massage, hyperbaric oxygen, and RF treatments like venus legacy to help reduce any swelling. To improve your final results, I also recommend adding vanquish for further fat removal, exilis/venus legacy for skin tightening, cellutone/z wave to make the skin smooth, remove scar tissue, and improve the skin’s appearance. However, a VASER revision would give you the smoothest result, but requires more downtime. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer
Swelling is a normal reaction to trauma. Your body produces lymphatic fluid as part of the healing process regardless of how much or how little you drink. The best management for swelling is massage, compression, and avoiding activities which speed your heart rate (cardio) for a few weeks. Hydrating with for light colored urine should include some electrolytes such as vitamin water zero or Gatorade light which have less/no sugar.Compression and gentle massage help.Close follow up with your plastic surgeon is recommended.
Following a SmartLipo procedure, patients should be consistent with wearing their compression garments to help reduce swelling. Staying hydrated with electrolytes is recommended. Avoiding salty food items will also help your body from retaining excess water. As a pre and post operative measure, taking Arnica Montana as well as Bromaline as directed has been known to help prevent and reduce excessive swelling.
Swelling is normal after any type of surgery. I usually put my patients on Arnica Montana tablets to help with the swelling and bruising. Wearing the compression garment is by far the most important aspect to help reduce the swelling and achieve the best possible results. After a few weeks, lymphatic massage and cryotherapy also can be very beneficial.Good luck to you,Dr. Powell
