Is micro-needling permanent? I have been researching and I am getting mixed answers.

For scarring, it will take a series of treatments and will need treatments to maintain results. I recommend microneedling/prp combined with lasers, Cosmelan, subcision and fillers for acne scarring. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Microneedling procedures are wonderful to improve a variety of issues on your skin. However, just like diet and exercise,  you have to commit to taking good care of your skin, using medical grade products and coming in for a maintenance treatment of some kind at least  every 3 months.  Sun exposure of any kind is detrimental and can bring hyperpigmented spots back.  Be sure to always wear an SPF of 50 or above, reapply if you are out in the sun and wear a big hat.

Microneedling is a great modality the help skin produce collagen and elastin to make your skin glow. PRP is the icing on the cake and should be used in combination. I always advise 3 treatments 4 weeks apart for any scarring or stretch marks. The microneedling pen is also an important factor to get the job right. I use the Rejuvapen which is electric and has multiple depth settings. Look into a provider that offers the same kind of program. Hope this helps. JB

Micro needling will improve the look of your scar by allowing your own body's production of collagen which fills the areas were the scars are located.  The best combination is having micro needling with PRP treatment at least 4 treatments.  Your skin will improve significantly.  Your previous scars will not necessarily come back but without maintenance the natural aging process will prevail.
My suggestion is to have 4-6 treatments of microneedle and PRP followed by maintenance treatments every 3-6 months.

Hello Bellebaby10,Thank you for your question.Microneedling + PRP breaks down the scar tissue and boosts collagen to strengthen and firm the skin resulting in smoother, tighter, healthier skin. With acne scars, it is required to do a series of treatments and that number depends on the scars. The results patients get with microneedling + PRP  is why they keep returning to keep their skin rejuvenation. Microneedling has come a long way over the past few years and can help skin via several methods. Firstly it releases cytokines and growth factors in the epidermis and dermis- the top and bottom layers of your skin. This in turn remodels scars and the dermal layer of the skin. Additionally needles can break up scars themselves.
 Microneedling is both user dependent and method driven. Simple needles can be used, growth factors can be added after the procedure, including PRP, or controlled heating during the procedure. This controlled heating is delivered via RF, and is called RF microneedling. RF can then be delivered via insulated or insulated needles. Even the energy level, depths, density, pulse duration and so many other variables can be controlled. This together with the added benefits of growth factor infusion makes this one of the most complex procedures in procedural dermatology. I use everything from Dermapen, though to newer generation insulated and non-insulated devices including INFINI micro-needling radiofrequency, Intensif and others.
