Thank you for your question regarding what to do with your inguinal and femoral hernias and your thighs. The good news is that you can have these surgeries performed at the same time. The bad news is trying to find a surgeon or surgeons and having to untangle insurance. To fix the hernias, you either need to find a qualified plastic surgeon or a general surgeon. If your plastic surgeon cannot repair your hernias, your plastic surgeon will have to find and coordinate a general surgeon to perform your hernia surgery at the same time as your thigh reduction. Also, your hernias should be covered under your medical insurance plan. However, medical insurance plans do not like to have elective aesthetic plastic surgery procedures performed at the same time as insurance procedures. Therefore, just for insurance purposes, it MAY be better to do them on separate days. All and all, I would consult with a qualified plastic surgeon. In my practice, we do it all these procedures at the same time. However, your plastic surgeon may have other plans and may not feel qualified for fix your hernias.
