The oral surgeon/ or a periodontist can expose the impacted canine. Then an orthodontist can pull the tooth into position using braces/chain ...so , a consultation with an orthodontist will help to treatment plan this case
Impaction of canine teeth is a relatively common condition in teenagers. The canine tooth does not have a sufficient path to erupt naturally into its designated spot in the mouth. To allow proper development, the oral surgeon will reflect the gums and uncover the crown of the canine tooth. A small orthodontic button is then cemented to the tooth which has a chain attached to it. The gums can then be placed back and the patient heals in a few days. The patient then can have an orthodontist guide the impacted canine into the proper location using the chain attached to the canine. Hope this helps. Good luck and best wishes.
Hi There, The most common treatment for impacted canines is to surgically (by an oral surgeon) open up the area to expose the tooth. Once healed, the orthodontist comes along and attaches some form of loop or bracket to the now visible canine. This bracket or loop allows wires to be attached and the tooth then can be pulled into its proper position through orthodontic treatment. This would be the ideal solution for an impacted canine tooth. Best of luck to you!
