I am taking your question to be these modalities for non-invasive uses. i-Lipo non-invasive body shaping and cellulite reduction technology offering safe and pain free body contouring in as little as 20 minutes, without surgery and without downtime. The FDA has allowed a claim for circumferential abdominal reduction of up to 10%. An extremely low level, external laser beam is placed on the skin the areas are treated for up to twenty minutes. However, multiple treatments need to be given. The problem with the study is that I didn't see a control group where just red light was used. Many times groups that are studied can see changes and unless controlled with an actual placebo group where both the doctors and the patients don't know whether the actual treatment modality is active, one doesn't actually know if the change is from the modality or the sutdy. I am personally quite skeptical about this technology and 10% was the maximum change and the change was not monitored over any length of time.External ultrasound cavitation focuses beams of high energy ultrasound and it is adsorbed within the fatty tissues. This modality shows some promise and some results were shown at the American Plastic Surgery Sociiety meeting in San Doiego. Again, multiple treatments are needed and the changes are small. There is some pain associated with theses treatments.I still believe that the best way to get rid of fat is directly with lipo where the fat is immediately and permanently removed. The larger the percentage of fat removed, the less likely that the fat remaining behind can grow and reduce some of the result. I use micro-lipo where the fat is gently removed a grain of rice-size at a time and we can remove up to 90 % of the fat under awake anesthesia in just a few hours. Last week, I removed over 9 pounds of pure fat that will never come back.While these non-invasive technologies hold promise, they are not yet up to getting the results that most of my patients are looking for.
