Persistent Bellafill Edema

Question

.8 cc injected 1 year ago, split between both cheeks. One side has had persistent swelling and tenderness. What’s the best way to manage? Surgical removal is not a financial option. Any chance it’s edema or lymphatic blockage? It looks bulky and I want it to reduce.

I have been cautioning my regular followers for years about the potential adverse reactions of permanent fillers. The fact is that permanent fillers have the potential to translate into persistent problems that may occur immediately following treatment or even five, ten or twenty+ years later. and can be very, very difficult to treat, since there is no dissolving enzyme for them, as there is for natural hyaluronic acid-based fillers.  Sorry, nodules, excessive fibrosis, and even lymphastic obstruction are potential complications.Surgical removal, even if it were economically feasible, is seldom a viable option for treating this problem, since it risks leaving potentially unsightly scars .  I have treated quite a number of permanent filler complications in individuals who have come to me having been treated elsewhere with them. Happily, I have had success with the use of an algorithm of varying combinations, concentrations and amounts of intralesional anti-inflammatory agents. Hope this helps.  Best of luck.
