Why Am I Getting Blood Blisters on my TT Incision? I Am 5 1/2 Months Post Op.

Your are right about 5 1/2 months being a long ways down the recovery road to be having issues with your tummy tuck incision, but depending on the sutures your surgeon used, there can still be some of them present (some surgeons use permanent sutures below the skin surface), and they can become contaminated with bacteria from sweat glands and skin pores, leading to the "blood blisters" you describe.

I suspect these drain a droplet of blood and pus, and then settle down with conservative care (just washing and drying is usually sufficient if the foreign body comes out with the droplet of drainage). They're really not blood blisters, but localized superficial stitch infections/abscesses, which is why not every one is affected, and why you may get more before you are done with this concern.

I'd ask your surgeon for a quick recheck, and ask if his/her suture choice may be causing your present issue. Follow your surgeon's recommendations. These spots are self-limiting concerns, and should not materially affect your final result. Best wishes! Dr. Tholen

This is a very uncommon finding after a tummy tuck. It may be sutures working their way out.  There may be other issues. Discuss with your surgeon and schedule and apointment to be re-examined. All the best.

It is very common to have this happen many, many months later. We all use some form of long lasting absorbable sutures in the deeper layers to help improve the long term scar. You can have some of these sutures try to work their way out of the skin before they completely dissolve 6 months or more later. It may cause some bloody discharge from a small area just as you describe. Have you surgeon check the scar but that is most likely what is happening.

Thanks for the question. Are you using some kind of scar treatment. The treatment itself can give you such blisters.If not than the absorbable sutures which fail to dissolve since the scar was kept dry all this time may cause such blisters. I think you need to check with you PS. Wish you good luck.
