I'm having breast reduction surgery in 2 weeks. I work at a desk, with minimal movement. My surgery is scheduled for a Friday afternoon and I would ideally like be back at work on Tuesday. I would only have to work 3 days before having a week and half off for the holiday. Is this realistic? I don't want to put myself at risk for complications.

Answer: Is 3 days too soon to return to work after Breast Reduction? Thank you for your question. Some patients are able to return to work within a few days of a breast reduction, but it largely depends on pain control. You would not be able to drive if still taking prescription pain medication and you will get tired at work more quickly. Most commonly I have patients take 5-7 days off, that way I can have an opportunity to see them at least once before they return to work.

Answer: Time off from work after a breast reduction Most patients can return to work at about two weeks after a breast reduction. That of course depends on the type of work that one does. A flight attendant or ER nurse who have more physically demanding jobs may require additional time off. Three days sounds very quick. You will be very tired since your body will be putting energy into healing. If you rush back to work you might increase the risk of wound healing issues and it willnot be worth it.
