Is a compression bandage or garment best to have right after explant surgery?

After I take out breast implants, I usually have patients were a slightly compressive and supportive bra, like a good sports bra that opens in the front or the back, not one that pulls down over the head. Different patients wear them for different amounts of time, depending on how they heal and on their degree of comfort. There are many ways to provide postoperative care, and no one way is absolutely correct. In general, patients in my experience are more comfortable when their post surgical breasts are supported in a bra, but your surgeon may have a different view. The most important thing is that you be able to discuss your concerns with the surgeon, not necessarily with the office staff. Make sure any surgeon operating on you to remove breast implants is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Best Wishes

Every surgeon has a different approach and there really is no right or wrong.  In my practice, I use drains and a compression wrap for a week followed by a tight sports bra.

This is a good question without a clear and definitive answer. I've done both ways. It does not appear that compression following explant is a guarantee to prevent fluid accumulation. It can't hurt- so if it is available- would be a good idea to do it.

I recommend my patients wear a tight sports bra for 4 to 6 weeks after surgery.  On the operating table, I put them in a tight compression garment at the end of the case.  I have great results with this.  Best to you!

I recommend my patients to wear a ace wrap bandage after surgery for at least after surgery, and a compression type sports bra after that for approximately 3 weeks. The compression will help reduce the tension on the skin allowing it to shrink and tighten. With your size implants currently especially I would look into having a compression sports bra post op even if you decide against using the ace wrap.
