Is the scar around my nipple healing properly 1 month post op from donut breast lift? (Photo)

Doughnut breast lifts can be very tricky to heal and it is not unusual to have puckering or scabbing  like you are seeing. The good news is any scar here can usually be touched up in the office under local anesthetic and no need to return to surgery. Check with your surgeon about their healing protocol but with donuts lifts, it is not unusual!  

It appears you may have a suture deep in the tissue that is coming to the surface "spit out" suture. It is not uncommon and can happen. You should follow up with your surgeon for an assessment. These things typically heal on their own with basic wound care. Regards

It is not uncommon to have deep sutures come to the surface or have small areas of breakdown after surgery. Depending on what suture material is used and wether it is absorbable or permanent suture, the process can last months after surgery. Usually the problem resolves with good wound care. Have your surgeon examine you and make recommendations for care.

Based on your picture it looks like you are healing well, after 8 weeks you can apply scar creams, consult with your PS and follow his or her instructions.best wishes.

Dear toniethetiger27,for scars, I close all of my incisions in 5 layers and do not use absorbable sutures because they cause inflammation and worse scarring. I tape all of my incisions in the office visits once a week for six weeks after surgery to improve the appearance. After taping, I start my patients on a scar gel therapy for 3 months that they have to put on their incisions twice daily.I understand your concern. However, without a proper assessment it would be difficult to determine what is wrong. It is best that you visit your plastic surgeon for further assessment. It is not uncommon for wounds under tension such as mastopexy wounds to have some breakdown and open. Local wound care consisting of keeping the wound clean is the usual treatment. Follow you surgeons instructions on wound care. These frequently heal with no further treatment needed. Scar revision, if needed, is only indicated once to wound has completely healed.

Hello!  Thank you for your question!  It does appear that you have some widening of the scar throughout as well as a small wound of that area. It is not uncommon, due to the inherent tension from such a breast lift technique. Although I don’t see any concerning findings on the photo submitted, I would maintain good hygiene to the area continue to follow your surgeon’s instructions for wound care and then scar treatment afterwards. If unacceptable scarring results after all has healed and your scars have matured, consideration for scar revision may be entertained. Best wishes for a wonderful result!
