Two week before Christmas, 2014, I had sclerotherapy after many months of laser therapy and vein removal. A scab appeared in my left leg and started to hurt. The doctor told me he must have injected too much into that area and to put neosporin on it. It's been almost 2 months. It's not any better and itches constantly and feels like a stabbing pain. I am now having a reaction to neosporin. Some days it's bleeding and oozing clear fluid and it always feels hot. Help please!

Answer: Post sclerotherapy ulcer. This appears to be a post sclerotherapy ulcer and either a subsequent infection or reaction to neosporin. Stop neosporin and see a vein specialist for further treatment. I would culture the area, start appropriate antibiotics and, sometimes, the wound may need to be cleaned to healthy tissue.

Answer: Infection after sclerotherapy is rare but can happen - Tampa, FL Stop using neosporin if you are developing a reaction to it. It may be stasis dermatitis that is confused with a reaction but nevertheless, stop using it. If there is drainage from the wound, it is likely infected and needs to be treated with oral antibiotics. It would also be wise to culture it before treatment. What you need to do is get a formal ultrasound venous Doppler examination to see if there is associated superficial vein thrombophlebitis which also needs to be addressed as well. Seek a board certified vein specialist from the 'physician locator' icon on the American College of Phlebology Website.

Answer: Reaction to neosporin after sclerotherapy This needs to be evaluated in person by a vein expert. Also, stop using Neosporin and never use it again. Many, many people are allergic to it and should not use it. You are one of them apparently. But you need to see a vascular surgeon regarding the wound.
