2 weeks post-op, what is the risk in lifting more than 10 lbs after breast augmentation?

The main risk with lifting too much too soon after breast augmentation is bleeding.  Activating the chest muscle and stressing it can cause a tear or may cause a blood vessel to open up.  This can result in bleeding which can completely mess up the result.  Bleeding may require going back to the operating room and may result in scar tissue formation around the breast implant making it hard and distorting the shape.  It is best to follow your surgeon's recommended advice after surgery in order to maximize your chance of getting an optimal result.

The reason why I ask all my breast augmentation patients to refrain from lifting heavy weights or performing cardio or doing anything that increases the heart rate or blood pressure is postoperative bleeding. This can occur for as long as four weeks after surgery. I certainly appreciate your dilemma with small children, however this is important. Best of luck.
