Totally asymmetrical eyes after retinal detachment repair - can anything be done? (Photos)
I had two retinal detachment repair surgeries last year (scleral buckle implant, vitrectomy). Ever since that, the affected eye has been much longer and thinner than the other. Doctors I ask about this keep brushing me off and saying it's ptosis - but my natural eyelid is a lot lower than the operated side and I think the elongation caused by the implant causes this. At the same time, removal of the buckle later has been discouraged as it both raises the rate of retinal detachment and may not do much cosmetically, as apparently the indentation it causes is not reversible with removal. This has completely ruined my self-esteem and I just want to know if anything can be done. I just my eye to look like it did before. I feel like I don't recognise my own face anymore and feel a sense of shame about this, when my natural eye appearance before was unique and got compliments from people.
